Description
Do you enjoy a dark honey coloration and stronger flavor? If so, this is the honey for you. Ahwatukee Alfalfa honey was harvested in Ahwatukee, Phoenix area. It has a much more mild flavor in comparison to a buckwheat honey. However, we find that it is still a dark and delicious honey. If you’re looking to try something new, its a great alternative to the lighter and sweeter varietals that you can find here in Arizona.
Alfalfa is the primary crop that the bees were pollinating when they harvested this honey. As mentioned above, this honey is darker in coloration with a strong and sweet flavor. If you compare it to our popular desert wild flower honey from Buckeye, this honey is slightly darker in color. Compare it to our orange blossom honey to get a sense of its coloration. This varietal ranges in crystallization from liquid to a thick granular consistency. The flavor of this honey is excellent for making baked goods or for use as a sweetener in coffee. You could also mix the Ahwatukee Alfalfa honey into a glaze or barbecue sauce for great results.
The alfalfa crop has a purple flower and can be an excellent source of nitrogen. This honey was harvested by the beekeeper Julio Sanchez.
